Bristol’s Museums, Galleries & Archives Learning Section, providing learning opportunities for nurseries, schools, colleges and their staff. A variety of skills-based workshops are available at our museum sites. We also encourage independent visits.

Bristol Record Office
Bristol Record Office look after the archives of the city of Bristol and make them available to everybody. Their aim is to collect and preserve records relating to the city of Bristol and the surrounding area for future generations to consult.
If you want to find out more about the records visit the Online Catalogue on their website. Staff can also offer advice to teachers about the records they hold.

Bristol Reference Library
Bristol Reference Library is the largest public reference library in the south west. The large Local History collection includes a publically accessible reference library and a vast selection of material available on request. This includes books, pamphlets, newspapers, maps, manuscripts, illustrations, photographs and an oral history archive.

The Architecture Centre
The Architecture Centre is an independent organisation dedicated to the promotion and exploration of excellence in all aspects of the built environment. The learning offer includes outreach workshops and events at the centre and resources to support the delivery of built environment education.

The Arnolfini is one of Europe’s leading centres for the contemporary arts. Educators can arrange an informal meeting to discuss questions and ideas. Learning staff are available to visit schools to help plan a project.

Bristol Ferry Boat Company is situated in Bristol’s Floating Harbour and offers a range of services from within the city limits and out to the countryside beyond. The learning offer allows schools to travel around the Floating Harbour and discover its history and wildlife from a completely different angle.

CREATE Centre
CREATE is Bristol’s environment centre. It hosts a range of events and exhibitions and also features a purpose-built eco-home.
The learning programme offers a range of innovative learning experiences to encourage children towards more sustainable lifestyles. Activities are available for Key Stages 2 and 3.

Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s ss Great Britain is one of the world’s most important historic ships and one of the biggest museum objects in the UK.
