The view from apprximately where Watershed stands in 2009 towards the Centre. The Drawbridge at the end of Baldwin Street markes the extent of navigation for larger ships, but smaller ones could continue beyond it.

Bristol had a spa in the 18th century known as Hotwells Spa. In its heyday it was was crowded with the nobility and gentry. There was a ball, a public breakfast and a promenade every week, and sometimes twice. The Pump Room was packed and the walk to it was thronged with the most fashionable company.
